We are pleased to provide information about making hotel reservations and travel arrangements for the Healthy People 2020 Public Meeting in Kansas City, KS. We also include local travel information for getting to the hotel from Kansas City International Airport. The meeting will be held at the University of Kansas Medical Center in the Battenfeld Auditorium, 3901 Rainbow Boulevard, Kansas City, KS 66160. Tentatively, the meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, and adjourn at 5:30 p.m.

Hotel Information

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn at the Plaza, One East 45th Street, Kansas City, MO 64111, on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a special conference rate for rooms booked in advance for the night of October 21:

  • $107/night for single/double occupancy, plus tax.

Please note that reservations must be made no later than Wednesday, October 7, 2009, to obtain the special conference rate.

Please refer to the Healthy People 2020 Public Meeting room block to receive the special conference rate. Accessible rooms for persons with disabilities are available upon request. Please let the hotel know about your needs.

We have compiled air and ground travel information for your convenience:

Air Transportation

EWA Travel is a participating travel agency for the Healthy People 2020 Public Meeting. EWA Travel will discount all published fares (up to 10% depending on fare and advance purchase) with United Airlines and will compare the savings with this airline against promotional fares for all airlines. You will have the option of using United Airlines or another airline, depending on the fare comparisons and your preference. Please note that although you are responsible for making your own travel arrangements, you are not required to use EWA Travel. We are providing this option as a convenience for you.

Registrants can book their airline tickets with EWA by calling Marife Simon at 1–800–368–4055 or 703–522–2626 Ext. 117 or by e-mail at marife@ewatravel.com between 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.  Marika Delgado is available between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. PST for people on the West Coast. Her number is 1–800–368–4055, and her e-mail is marika@ewatravel.com. Please refer to United Airlines File 577BC. Confirmations will be sent to your e-mail address. If you do not have access to e-mail, confirmations will be sent to your mailing address. Please note that a $35.00–$45.00 processing fee will be added to each ticket issued.

Ground Transportation from Kansas City International Airport

Driving directions from Kansas City International Airport to the Holiday Inn at the Plaza*

* These driving directions are provided only as a rough guideline. Please be sure to call ahead to verify the location and directions.

  • Start out going Southwest on LP Cookingham Drive toward International Circle.
  • Enter next roundabout and take 3rd exit onto LP Cookingham Drive.
  • Merge onto I-29 S/US-71 S toward Kansas City.
  • Merge onto US-169 S via Exit 2B toward Kansas City downtown.
  • Turn slight right onto Broadway Boulevard/US-169. Continue to follow Broadway Boulevard.
  • Merge onto I-35 S. Take the 27th Street exit, Exit 1B, on the left toward Broadway.
  • Ramp becomes Penn Valley Drive. Turn slight left onto Broadway Street. Turn left onto W 31st Street.
  • Turn right onto Main Street. The hotel entrance is on the left.

Driving directions from Kansas City International Airport to University of Kansas Medical Center (approximately 25.8 miles)

  • Head south on Brasilia Avenue toward Paris Street.
  • Turn left at Paris Street.
  • Turn left to merge onto LP Cookingham Dr/MO-D/MO-Y.
  • Merge onto I-29 S/US-71 S via the ramp toward Kansas City.
  • Turn slight right at I-35 S (signs for US-40/I-35/I-70) entering Kansas.
  • Take exit 234 toward Rainbow Boulevard.
  • Turn left at S 7th Street Trfy/US-169. Continue to follow US-169.
  • Turn right at Adams Street.
  • Turn left at Marty Avenue.
  • Turn left at Rainbow Boulevard/US-169. The hotel will be on the right.
