How to use DATA2020

DATA2020, the Healthy People 2020 interactive data tool, allows users to explore the data and technical information related to the Healthy People 2020 objectives.

Objectives

Each Healthy People 2020 objective in DATA2020 is described in an “objective block.” The objective block includes a plain language statement of the objective and of its status at baseline, along with the desired Healthy People 2020 target for that objective. The objective block also documents how the target was set, what data source was used, and where to find more information and available data.

Objectives block on each Healthy People 2020 objective page

Healthy People 2020 objectives that retained the same definition from the previous Healthy People iteration (Healthy People 2010) are identified by a DATA2010 icon in the objective block. DATA2010 is a separate online site—now archived— that users can still navigate to search for Healthy People 2010 objectives and data. A crosswalk between objectives from Healthy People 2010 to Healthy People 2020 can be found here: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hpdata2010/hp2010_final_review_appendix_D.pdf [PDF - 1 MB]

National Data

DATA2020 allows users to explore the latest national data and trends that are available for Healthy People 2020 objectives. Users can further examine the data that are available for demographic population groups such as race and ethnicity, sex, educational attainment, income, as well as other groups.

When national data are available for a Healthy People 2020 objective, a DATA2020 icon will be displayed in the objective block. The DATA 2020 icon links users to the DATA2020 search for that objective. Alternatively, users may click on the National Data tab from the Topic Area page to go directly to all the national data that are available for that entire Topic Area.

Visual Display

Users may obtain a visual display of the data for many Healthy People 2020 objectives. Graphs/charts are generated by clicking on the icon chart icon displayed next to the population of interest. Alternatively, users may choose to download data spreadsheets to create their own graphs/charts.

Data Search

Users can search the available data for Healthy People 2020 objectives by Topic Area and/or data source using the Data Search feature. Users can further refine their search to data that are available for demographic population groups of interest.

To access the data search feature, users may click on the Data tab at the top of the HealthyPeople.gov page, then select “Search the Data” from the left navigation pane or select “Additional Data Options” located at the top right of the National Data tables.
